Mitchell's Powers wins 3rd in musician competition

SIOUX FALLS — A Mitchell girl, Naomi Powers, recently won third place in the Young Musician Concerto Competition, sponsored by the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra League.
The Young Musician Concerto Competition is an annual state and regional competition which is open to instrumental music students through their senior year in high school.
Powers is a seventh-grader at Mitchell Middle School. She has been studying violin since she was 4 years old.
Powers is a member of the South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra and attended Interlochen Arts Camp during the summers of 2011 and 2012.
In 2011, she took first place in the Junior Division of the South Dakota Music Teachers National Association Competition.
Powers is the student of SDSO Concertmaster Doosook Kim. She performed J.S. Bach’s “Partita No. 3, BWV 1006” and “Zigeunerweisen” by Pablo Sarasate.
