The Sam Tronnes Memorial Foundation recently awarded 11 scholarships totaling $12,500, with an award range from $500 to $2,500, to South Dakota seniors to help support their post high school education.

Among this year’s winners are Mitchell seniors Ashley Murtha, $1,000; and Cara Beck, $500.

In addition, the foundation awarded three $1,500 grants to cities to provide support for their entry-level hockey programs, making it easier for young players to get into the sport. The foundation also provided $500 grants to all 11 South Dakota hockey cities for use in supporting hockey in their community.

All awards are provided through the profits generated by the Pro Hockey Celebrity Hunt, which is held in Mitchell each fall.
