LETTER: Greed, not socialism, to blame for poverty

If I make more money than my neighbors, I should pay more taxes and I will be glad to do it.

To the Editor:

In the Feb. 21 public opinion, John Hoile complains about me wanting to tax the rich more, but he says not myself. I don’t know what he bases that remark on.

I appreciate good government and the benefits I get from it and I am glad to pay my taxes. And if I make more money than my neighbors, I should pay more taxes and I will be glad to do it.

He blames socialism for the European countries’ problems. The reason the European countries are in trouble is for the same reason we are in trouble; too many greedy people with most of the money who are living high on the hog at the expense of the rest of the people and liking to keep it that way. They are not worried about the poor guy that does not have a job and can’t feed his family.

Most of the politicians are more worried about their party and their job than they are about the country and the rest of the people. As for socialism being so bad, that depends on from which side you look at it. It wouldn’t hurt to have a little compassion.
