Yankton schools no longer used as polling stations

Election officials decided to remove Yankton Middle School and Lincoln Elementary School from the list of polling stations due to security and logistical concerns.

YANKTON (AP) — Election officials in Yankton have decided to no longer use Yankton schools as polling stations.

The media reports that election officials decided to remove Yankton Middle School and Lincoln Elementary School from the list of polling stations due to security and logistical concerns.

Officials say there is not enough parking and little access to restrooms. Safety concerns have also become an issue following the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut in December.

Yankton School District business manager Jason Bietz says e-polling and voting centers are eliminating the need for precincts.
