Two Hanson girls’ basketball players were voted to the Cornbelt all-conference first team, it was announced Monday.

Junior Cassidy Graham and senior Kendra Cheeseman were Hanson’s representatives on the first-team list.

Joining Graham and Cheeseman on the list were Freeman’s Dina Soulek, who was also named conference MVP, Canistota’s Chole Nielsen and Justine Dye, of Bridgewater-Emery.

On the second team were Kynedi Cheeseman, of Hanson; Kylie Hughes, of Marion; Kelsey Dawson, of Howard; Kylee Kessler, of Menno; and Tiana Kayser, of Bridgewater-Emery.

On the third team were Freeman’s Erika Sage and Nicole Saarie; Marion’s Katherine Luke, Menno’s Abby Herrboldt and Canistota’s Natasha Letcher.

Robertson named Cornbelt MVP

The Canistota boys’ basketball team landed three players of the first-team all-Cornbelt Conference team, which was announced Monday.

Canistota’s Alex Robertson headlines the list and was named the conference’s most valuable player. Along with Robertson, Jason Van Winkle and Cody Bunger, of Canistota also made first team. Hanson’s Jordan Marquardt and Bridgewater-Emery’s Clayton Dye join the trio on the first team.

On the second team were Steve Larsen, of Howard, Matt Huber, of Hanson and Freeman’s Shaun Becker, Cole Paulson and Caleb Lang.

On the third team were Austin Herrboldt, of Menno, Landon Laible, of Howard, Nick Gortmaker, of Marion, Jacob Schweitzer, of Bridgewater-Emery, and Boon DeKramer, of Canistota.

Three Special Olympics teams earn silver medals

YANKTON — Three Mitchell Special Olympics teams placed second in their divisions at the Special Olympics South Dakota State Basketball Tournament over the weekend in Yankton.

The teams that won silver medals were Mitchell Black, Mitchell Unified and the Mitchell cheerleading team.

Members of the Black team were Kyle Clarambeau, Ian Ames, Tom Archambeau, Chuck Grandrath, Anthony Kelly, Kaitlyn Putnam, Briana Kelly, Carissa Vobr, Josh Crittenden, Tiffany Vobr and Paul Bauman. The coaches were Pat Belling, the DWU cross country and track and field coach, and Derek Fossum.

Members of the Unified team were Scott Goldammer, Luke Nagel, Jerry Vobr, Aaron Krouse and Ryan Collins. Unified partners were Jerimy Bultje, Devrin Clark, Jenna Skinner and Shana Clarambeau. The coach was Rodney Clarambeau.

Cheerleaders were Sara Tackett, Bryton Cummings and Emilie Cummings. The coaches were Ann Bauman and Karla Cummings.

In addition, the Mitchell Gold team won third place in its division and earned bronze medals. Team members were Brett Pederson, Bret Weier, Matthew Putnam, Matthew Baysinger, Thy Chum, Thomas Filler, Steven Kazema, Chris Heckenliable, Danny Schneider and Mike Determan. The coaches were Nathan Putnam and Travis Hodne.
