Three people were injured in a two-vehicle car accident late Saturday at the intersection of S.D. Highways 37 and 42 near Ethan.

South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers said around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Scarlett Gukeisen, 53, from Parkston, was northbound on Highway 37 in a 2007 Dodge Caravan, when her vehicle collided with a 2004 Chrysler Concord, driven by Keith Wollman, 30, of Sioux Falls.

Authorities said Wollman was speeding, and not aware the roads were icy. He was not able to stop at the intersection’s stop sign, and entered the intersection where the vehicles collided.

Wollman and a passenger, Ashley Daley, 23, of Sioux Falls, were transported by ambulance to Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell. Troopers said Wollman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, and Daley suffered minor injuries.

Gukeisen was transported to Avera Queen of Peace in Parkston with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, but said it was the only major accident of the weekend, despite dealing with dozens of vehicles in the ditch due to bad weather and icy road conditions.
