One of the daughters of Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., was in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday in South Dakota.
Kassidy Noem, 18, a University of Sioux Falls freshman, was not seriously injured in the crash, which occurred in Moody County just before 6 p.m.
“Kassidy was involved in a single-car accident (Tuesday) evening north of Sioux Falls on I-29 due to icy road conditions,” said Courtney Heitkamp, Rep. Noem’s press secretary. “She is doing fine and the Noem family is thanking God for His protection.”
South Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Kevin Joffer said Kassidy Noem was northbound on Interstate 90 when she lost control of her vehicle on an icy patch on the road surface near Mile Marker 108. The 2001 Buick LeSabre she was driving went into the east ditch, struck a delineator pole and rolled once, landing on its wheels, he said. Noem was wearing her seat belt and did not need to be treated or transferred, Joffer said.
There was no indication of excessive speeding, he said, and she was not cited.
“There were several crashes in the area at that time due to the conditions,” Joffer said. Kassidy Noem commented on the crash on her Twitter page. “So thankful right now that God protected me ... rolled my car a couple times,” she wrote.
