Gerald Albert Baier, 80, Parkston, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital, Parkston.

Gerald Albert Baier, 80, Parkston, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital, Parkston.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1932.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel near Dimock. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are by Koehn Brothers Funeral Home in Parkston. Gerald Albert Baier was born to Walter and Rose (Schumacher) Baier in Mitchell. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church at Armour.

After attending school, he began farming with his dad.

Gerald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was united in marriage on Feb. 5, 1956, to Rosella Reimnitz at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

They farmed on a third-generation family farm near Delmont until retiring into Parkston in 2011.

He was great steward of the land and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons, as well as having a passion for woodworking.

Thankful for sharing his life are his wife, Rosella, Parkston; eight children: Geraldine (Jack) Long, Fort Worth, Texas; Eldon (Jane) Baier, Dimock; Nolan (Dee) Baier, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Leon (Jane) Baier, Mitchell; Lori (Mike) Weisz, Chadron, Neb.; June (Doug) Schaefers, Sioux Falls; Donald (Sandra) Baier, Armour; and Patty (Rick) Gullickson, Brookings; 16 grandchildren, a great-grandchild, five step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Karen Baier; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Lila; and siblings: Betty, Calvin and Lloyd.
