PARKSTON - An early Saturday morning standoff between an armed Parkston man and law enforcement ended peacefully, according to law enforcement.

Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Schulte and Parkston Police Chief Greg Reichenberg said the Sheriff’s Department and Parkston police responded to a report of a disorderly subject around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Parkston.

They said the man, whose name is being withheld for the time being, went into a house, obtained a firearm and barricaded himself in the residence for about two hours before coming out of his own accord.

“It was a short little standoff, and he surrendered peacefully,” Schulte said.

Reichenberg said the matter is still under investigation but told The Daily Republic the man has been cited with simple assault on law enforcement and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
