A Mitchell man convicted of forgery was sentenced Tuesday to 60 days in jail and put on probation for two years.

Christopher Bonnette, 35, pleaded guilty Jan. 8 to one count of forgery for signing his own name and forging the name of his landlord, Boyd Reimnitz, on a $205 paycheck and cashing it last November at County Fair in Mitchell. Reimnitz’s name appeared on the paycheck because of an agreement the local landlord made with Bonnette’s employer, Heritage Roofing, Bonnette said.

Bonnette was also sentenced to 60 days in jail with 45 days suspended for one count of a criminal entry of a motor vehicle, a charge he pleaded guilty to Jan. 8. The charge stems from an incident in which Bonnette stole stereo equipment from an unlocked car parked in December at Coborn’s in Mitchell.
