A Mitchell woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to simple assault on a law enforcement officer and first-offense drunken driving.

Stacy Seltz, 25, was arrested Jan. 8 after a Mitchell police officer stopped her vehicle in the 100 block of 12th Avenue after seeing Seltz swerve and nearly jump a curb in the 1800 block of North Main Street, court documents say.

Seltz performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested for drunken driving. Court documents say Seltz had to be forced into handcuffs and into the back of a patrol car, kicking an officer several times in the process.

Her blood alcohol content was found to be 0.279 around the time of her arrest, nearly 3.5 times the legal limit for driving in South Dakota of 0.08.

She faces a maximum of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.

A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was set for April.
