Huron man pleads guilty to harboring 2 escaped juveniles

Authorities say 20-year-old David Mendoza hid the two suspects after they assaulted a jailer and broke out of the facility on the evening of Nov. 13.

HURON (AP) — A Huron man has pleaded guilty to harboring two juveniles who escaped from a Beadle County jail last fall.

Authorities say 20-year-old David Mendoza hid the two suspects after they assaulted a jailer and broke out of the facility on the evening of Nov. 13.

The two juveniles were apprehended the next day.

Mendoza is charged with concealment of an escape prisoner. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The media reports that the plea agreement calls for prosecutors to drop a second concealment charge and two counts of being an accessory to escape.

A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
