Historic railroad depot returning to Fort Pierre

FORT PIERRE (AP) — A historic railroad depot in South Dakota is being returned to its original home.

The Fort Pierre Railroad Depot is more than 100 years old. It has been on the Mud Butte-area ranch of Shirley Miller since the mid-1960s.

Miller has agreed to give the 20-feet wide by 90-feet long building to the Fort Pierre "Bring It Home" committee, which plans to turn it into a visitors attraction.

Committee member Gary Grittner tells the media the depot could be moved as early as next week. The 170-mile trip should take two days.

Restoration of the building is expected to be completed within two years.
