The Dakota Discovery Museum, 1300 McGovern Ave., Mitchell, will be hosting the spring regional Poetry for All People reading event from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Three area poets, MJ McMillan, of Murdo; and Kelly Henkel and Emily Strong, both of Mitchell, will be featured at the event, reading selections from their works.
McMillan writes on his observations of the human condition and everyday life experiences. Through his work, he endeavors to bring to readers a measure of peace and tranquility. McMillan will introduce the release of his newest book, “Poems for the Common Man Vol. 3.”
Henkel has spent most of her life in South Dakota with stints in Manchester, England; and Denver. She began writing poetry at 15 and has received several awards for her work.
Strong, a Mitchell seventh-grade student, writes much more than poetry and is currently working on a book. She has been writing for about three years and is also an active member in the Mitchell Camera Club.
Time will be available after the featured poets for open mike readings from the audience.
The event is free to the public and refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 605-996-2122 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
