PARKSTON — After a record-breaking weekend, the Parkston wrestling team was well received during its homecoming.

“This community supports its sports very well and wrestling has a huge backing also,” said Parkston coach Jared Digmann, whose team won the Class B state wrestling title and set a state record for all-time scoring with 164 team points. “We have a huge crowd that follows us everywhere and we love the support they give us.”

The Trojans were welcomed home Sunday afternoon at Parkston High School where members of the community, Digmann and senior Myles Bialas spoke in front of proud fans.

“It’s exciting for these kids,” Digmann said. “Right now, we’re all exhausted from all of the emotions this weekend, but it’s exciting.”

The Trojans placed 10 of their 12 wrestlers who qualified for the Class B state tournament and are already thinking of their potential next season.

“We definitely want to get better for next year,” Digmann said. “I know the kids won’t be content for individual places, and we know there’s not going to be a team that’s not going to try to knock us off.”

But for now, the state champions are embracing the near perfect season they had. As a team, Parkston was 11-0 in dual matches and won 10 tournaments throughout the season.

“We’re going to enjoy this right now because nothing is ever guaranteed to happen again,” Digmann said.
