Platte man arrested after pharmacy break-in

PLATTE — A 21-year-old man is charged with multiple felonies after allegedly breaking into Hoffman’s Pharmacy in Platte and taking several thousand dollars’ worth of prescription drugs.

Kristopher Keegel, of rural Platte, was arrested Feb. 15 and charged with second-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance by ingesting.

He is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court later this month.

According to court documents, Keegel allegedly smashed the glass on the front door and entered Hoffman’s Pharmacy, located at 408 Main St., sometime during the night of Feb. 12 or the early morning hours of Feb. 13. Keegel allegedly stole 12 bulk bottles of hydrocodone and one bulk bottle of tramadol.

Bulk bottles of medication used in retail pharmacies typically contain between 100 and 1,000 pills. Several of the containers were found empty in Keegel’s possession during the execution of a search warrant, court documents say.

A Feb. 15 drug test found evidence of hydrocodone in Keegel’s system, court documents say.

Keegel faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine for burglary and 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for drug possession.

The case was investigated by the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office and the Platte Police Department.
