Bertram leads Winner girls over Todd County to win District 13A championship

GREGORY — The Winner girls’ basketball team defeated Todd County 64-49 in the District 13A championship game Friday in Gregory.

GREGORY — The Winner girls’ basketball team defeated Todd County 64-49 in the District 13A championship game Friday in Gregory.

Winner’s Kelsey Bertram had 21 points and eight rebounds. Cassidy Hanson recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double and Tawny Barry scored nine points. The Warriors totaled 36 rebounds and 15 turnovers. Winner was 23-of-71 from the field and 16-of-25 from the foul line.

Todd County was led by Erin Grimshaw with 19 points and nine rebounds. Selina Big Crow scored 18 points and Stevie Lone Dog grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. The Falcons had 24 turnovers and were 18-of-47 from the field and 10-of-18 from the free-throw line.

Winner (16-6) plays Pine Ridge in the Region 7A tournament Friday.

Parker 42, Freeman 39

TEA —The Parker girls’ basketball team defeated Freeman 42-39 to claim the District 7B championship Friday in Tea.

Parker was led by Micalanne Hanten and Tessa Weeldreyer with 10 points apiece. Weeldreyer grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Parker was 11-of-41 for 27 percent from the field and 17-of-24 for 71 percent from the free-throw line.

Freeman was led by Erika Sage with 10 points. Dina Soulek had seven points and seven rebounds in the loss. Freeman was 14-of-47 for 30 percent from the field and 4-of-10 for 40 percent from the foul line. The team recorded 29 rebounds and 13 turnovers.

Freeman finished the season with a record of 10-10.

Parker (14-8) plays Centerville in the Region 4B championship.

Boys’ basketball

McCook Central/Montrose 57, Baltic 40

BALTIC — The McCook Central/Montrose boys’ basketball team finished the regular season with a 57-40 win over Baltic Friday.

Brandon Reef scored 15 points for the Fighting Cougars. Will Gottlob added 13 points and Bill Kapperman scored 12 points.

Josiah Aberson led Baltic with 11 points and seven rebounds. Baltic shot 16-of-47 from the field and 2-of-7 from the free-throw line. The team had 19 total rebounds and 10 turnovers.

McCook Central/Montrose is 15-5 and plays West Central Tuesday in the District 9A tournament in Salem. Baltic is 8-12 and plays Sioux Falls Christian Tuesday in the District 6A tournament in Sioux Falls.

MCM won the junior varsity game 44-40 and won the “C” game 34-29.

Wagner 49, Gregory 38

WAGNER — Dylan Brunsing scored a game-high 15 points to lead Wagner over Gregory 49-38 Friday.

Noah St. Pierre had 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double in the win. The Red Raiders were 16-of-44 from the field and 11-of-18 from the foul line.

Gregory was led by Gavin Thomas with 10 points. Andrew Taggart grabbed a team-best seven of the team’s 20 rebounds. The Gorillas were 15-of-38 from the field and 6-of-19 from the foul line.

Wagner is 10-10 and plays. Gregory is 5-15 and plays St. Francis Indian in the first round of the District 13A tournament Tuesday in St. Francis.

Chamberlain 77, Stanley County 40

CHAMBERLAIN — Gage Basting scored team-highs 21 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Chamberlain boys’ basketball team past Stanley County 77-40 Friday.

Skyler Bertram had 17 and Reuben Estes added 11 for the Cubs

Stanley County was led by Brady Washechek with 12 and Tucker Fishback had 10 points in the loss.

Chamberlain is 15-5 and plays in the District 12A championship game Thursday. Stanley County is 3-17 and plays Mobridge Tuesday in District 13A tournament.
