Things to remember

BENEFIT BREAKFAST PLANNED: A breakfast benefit for Charlie Beckstrom will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, at John Paul II School gym, Mitchell.

The local MOPS organization will host a bake sale at the same time.

Beckstrom, the 6-month-old son of Carl and Sarah Beckstrom, needs a liver transplant.

Menu includes scrambled eggs, mini pancakes, sausage, hash browns, orange juice, milk and coffee. A free will offering will be accepted.

All profits will be donated to the family to help cover travel and medical expenses. Donations may also be sent to Beckstrom Family Fundraiser, John Paul II School, 1510 W. Elm, Mitchell, S.D. 57301.

LOCAL MINISTER PRESENTS ISRAEL PROGRAM: Mitchell Wesleyan Church presents an Israel presentation by the Rev. Keith Nash, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, at First Reformed Church, Mitchell.

Today in local history

On this date in 2008, discussion on the rejection of building a second arena led to a comment by Councilman Allan Lepke that opened exploration of the building of a new Corn Palace. Several other council members agreed that proposition was not out of the realm of possibility.
