Howard gets 8 qualifiers to Class B state tourney

SALEM — Howard had three individual champions, qualified eight wrestlers to state and took second place as a team at the Region 2B tournament Saturday.

Howard’s Bailey Neises (113), Luke Loudenburg (120) and James Jungwirth (170) were each crowned region champions. They’ll be wrestling this weekend at the Class B state tournament, held Friday and Saturday in Aberdeen.

The top four placers in each weight class in each of the four regions qualified for state Saturday.

Evan Donahue (138) took second for Howard. Cole Hodges (126) and Kaleb Haas (160) and Adonis Ruml (132) and Nick Pardy (182) each took fourth place.

Canton won the team championship with 227 points and Howard finished with 172. McCook Central/Montrose was seventh with 103 points and Marion/Freeman was 10th with 24 points.

McCook Central/Montrose had three wrestlers finish in second at the region tournament, including Jerry Kappenman (160), Tad Reiner (195) and Robert Hoiten (220). The other wrestler the Fighting Cougars are sending to state is Jordan Scheier (106).

M/F’s Cole Globke (170) will be the team’s lone participant at state.
