LETTER: Add taxes to build road funds

How about taxing these plow jockeys, ethanol plants, cheese factories and dairies to pay for the roads and bridges their trucks are tearing up with a maximum wheel tax of $16 per vehicle.

To the Editor:

I noticed an item in the paper stating our geniuses in Pierre are trying to figure out how to fund the county roads and bridges.

How about taxing these plow jockeys, ethanol plants, cheese factories and dairies to pay for the roads and bridges their trucks are tearing up with a maximum wheel tax of $16 per vehicle.

Tax the plow jockeys (farmers) so much per bushel that they are subsidized by the government to raise. Countywide average yield would be easy to figure out. Tax the ethanol plants so much per gallon for the gallons they are subsidized by the government, directly or indirectly, to produce. Tax the dairies so much per gallon they produce and haul over the roads that are paid for by the taxpayers who build and maintain them who never use those roads. Tax the cheese factories so much per pound for what they produce and haul over the township and county roads.
