Mission woman sentenced in asphyxiation death of child

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — A South Dakota woman has been sentenced to six months in custody and six months of home confinement for the asphyxiation death of a child.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Kristen Bear Heels, of Mission, caused the death of a child under 7 by overlaying, which involves accidentally rolling over onto the victim.
The 29-year-old Bear Heels pleaded guilty in November to involuntary manslaughter.
U.S. District Judge Roberto Lange also ordered Bear Heels to serve 18 months of probation.
