Flurries mixed with blowing snow caused slippery road conditions Thursday afternoon and sent multiple vehicles into the ditch off Interstate 90 between Mount Vernon and Alexandria.
According to Highway Patrol Trooper John Lord, between 4:15 and 4:45 p.m. law enforcement responded to numerous reports of vehicles running off the road, including a rollover crash near I-90 mile marker 349, east of Alexandria, with two other vehicles in the ditch nearby; a semi in the ditch at mile marker 319, near Mount Vernon, with multiple other cars off the road nearby; and at least one more in the ditch near mile marker 336, east of Mitchell. Lord reported no injuries in those incidents.
“We’re winding up with low visibility and basically glare ice in those areas,” Lord said. Scanner traffic indicated additional vehicles in the ditch in the Mitchell area. Lord predicted the slippery conditions would continue to cause problems into Thursday night.
“As long as the wind is blowing, we’re going to have issues,” he said.
