The Mitchell High School band is waking up in the Florida warmth this morning.
About 100 kids and 20 chaperones left Wednesday afternoon on three buses for the 32-hour trip to Orlando, Fla., for two musical opportunities.
The first starts this morning, when the group will spend three hours working with Disney music clinicians.
“They will basically be scoring one of Disney’s animated films. It’s a very neat experience,” Mitchell High School bands director Ryan Stahle said.
Stahle, who took a group to Florida in 2009 on the same trip, said clinicians will work with the students to create a piece that goes with one of Disney’s classic movies. In 2009, the group scored “The Little Mermaid.” The music created was recorded, synced to the movie, and put on a DVD for the group to have.
Saturday, the band will be marching in the Epcot Parade at Walt Disney World.
Money for the trip was raised through various fundraisers the group has been doing throughout the school year.
After those activities, the group will spend Sunday at the beach and touring Walt Disney World before arriving back in Mitchell on Tuesday evening.
“These are memories that most of the kids are going to never forget and for me personally, it’s just great to share that with them,” Stahle said.
