Tonight’s Mitchell High School girls’ basketball game will be senior night.

The Kernels host Sioux Falls Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

Saturday, the Mitchell boys’ basketball team hosts Huron at 4:45 p.m, which will also be senior night.

All seniors and parents of players, managers and cheerleaders will be recognized during team introductions.

DWU men’s program to host doubleheader

The Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball program will host two boys’ high school basketball games Monday at the Corn Palace.

Because weather cut the Culver’s DWU Classic short Saturday, the program will now hosts the doubleheader.

Viborg-Hurley, which is ranked fourth in Class B, will take on South Central (17-1) at 6:30. Directly following the Viborg-Hurley vs. South Central game, Ethan plays Freeman in a matchup of Class B foes.

South Dakota State men rout IUPUI 82-45

BROOKINGS — Jordan Dykstra had 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead South Dakota State in an 82-45 rout over IUPUI on Thursday night.

South Dakota State (20-7, 11-3 Summit) shot 53.8 percent from the floor, knocking down 28 of 52 shot attempts, including 11 3-pointers. The Jackrabbits out-rebounded IUPUI 41-20 and had 17 assists.

Greg Rice gave IUPUI (6-21, 1-12) a 10-8 lead after a lay-up with 12:57 to go, but South Dakota State answered with a 33-11 run to close out the first half, leading 41-21.

South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters led all scorers with 18 points and Chad White chipped in with 14 points and four rebounds.

It is the second straight 20-win season for South Dakota State, which has won nine of its last 10 games including an eight-game winning streak before the 88-83 loss to Oakland on Feb. 9.

Oakland slips by Coyote men 76-75

VERMILLION — Duke Mondy scored 16 points, including the deciding free throw with 4 seconds left, and Oakland defeated South Dakota 76-75 on Thursday.

Corey Petros had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Drew Valentine had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (14-13, 9-4 Summit), who have won five in a row since a 97-78 home loss to South Dakota.

After Juevol Myles’ free throws tied it with 22 seconds to play, Mondy made one of two free throws. Myles missed a shot to win at the end.

Myles led the Coyotes (8-17, 4-9) with 23 points and Brandon Bos scored 22. South Dakota, which shot 50 percent in each half, has lost four in a row.

SDSU women stumble in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS — The South Dakota State women’s basketball team was denied its 20th win of the season Tuesday in Indianapolis.

The Jackrabbits made just one 3-point field goal en route to falling to Summit League foe IUPUI 70-67.

Megan Waytashek led SDSU in scoring with 20 points. Waytashek made the Jackrabbits’ only 3-pointer of the game. Ashley Eide and Mariah Clarin each chipped in with 11 points.

IUPUI was led by DeAirra Goss, who scored 16 points and was 5-of-13 from the field. Goss also finished with six rebounds.

SDSU (19-7, 11-2 Summit) takes the court again at 4 p.m. Saturday against Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill.

USD women fall to Oakland 59-46

ROCHESTER, Mich. — The University South Dakota women’s basketball team shot 29 percent as they fell to Summit League foe Oakland University 59-46 Thursday in Rochester, Mich.

The Coyotes were 18-of-26 from the field and 5-of-20 from behind the three-point line.

Tempestt Wilson led USD in scoring with 16 points on 5 of 12 shooting.

The senior scored 14 of the team’s 22 first-half points.
