Sioux Falls to look into taxicab regulation

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — South Dakota's largest city is looking into regulation of taxicabs.
Some of the larger cab companies in Sioux Falls have complained that several one-man operations that have popped up in the city are ruining their businesses.
Pat Malfero, owner of Citywide Taxi, says the city needs to back the original cab companies because the solo operations are "out for themselves."
Rico Carlson, owner of Rico's Taxi, a one-man outfit, says he's not trying to poach customers from his larger competitors and there are plenty of riders to go around.
The media reports there are 19 taxicab companies in the city. Nine of them have only one car. There are five limousine companies.
The city council has assembled a task force to study the issue.
