Huron denies request for home to serve as church

HURON (AP) — The Huron city commission has denied a permit to a Buddhist church that wanted to hold Sunday services in a home.

The South Dakota Buddhist Association, which filed the request, told the city that a monk and church treasurer live in the home and about 20 people would attend services once a week.

The media says neighbors had complained about parking during the services because there are only a few off-street spaces at the house.

A city examiner who heard the request recommended that it be rejected because the structure and yard had been neglected. He also cited the possible parking problems.
