Catching up: A look at former area athletes: Winner native, Augustana wrestler Docken goes 3-0 last week

Jayd Docken, a sophomore for the Augustana Vikings’ No. 15-ranked wrestling squad, has gone 3-0 over the last three weeks. On Feb. 2, the Winner native pinned Northern State’s Baker Haar in two minutes, 17 seconds to help the Vikings to a 34-9 victory over the Wolves in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference meeting.
Docken, ranked sixth in the country at 197 pounds, pinned Minot State’s Joe Johnson in 1:36 in a dual the next day to seal another victory for Augustana. Docken won by forfeit against Upper Iowa on Saturday in a loss to Upper Iowa in Sioux Falls.
Augustana will host the Augustana Open starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls.
- Chamberlain native Traxton Priebe finished 10th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.80 seconds for the South Dakota State University men’s track and field team on Saturday at the Bison Open in Fargo, N.D.
Priebe and the Jackrabbits will compete again on Feb. 16 when they head to the Nebraska Tune-Up and the South Dakota Twilight meet as they prepare for The Summit League Indoor Championships in two weeks.
- On Friday, Mount Vernon graduates Robbie Kazi and Jonathan Nebelsick, both freshmen for the University of Sioux Falls men’s track and field team, competed in the Dordt Invitational in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Kazi finished 19th in the men’s 55-meter dash with a finish of 6.86 seconds and 14th in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 24.26. Nebelsick competed in the men’s high jump and finished 11th overall with a jump of 1.80 meters.
The Cougars compete again on Saturday in the South Dakota Twilight in Vermillion.
- University of Sioux Falls men’s basketball senior David Maxwell led the Cougars to a 75-70 victory over the University of Mary on Saturday at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls. The former Parkston standout scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 34 minutes of action. USF (10-12, 6-12 NSIC) hosts Augustana College on Friday for a conference showdown in the Stewart Center.
