There will be a website constructed and an open house to visit for potential contributors of the Mitchell High School weight room project.

During a meeting Monday, a group leading the charge to improve the weight room decided a website should be constructed to give people the opportunity to observe the current weight room and some views of future plans. Mitchell football coach Kent VanOverschelde said the group would like the proposed webpage running by Monday and the site will be an informational page that depicts the overall plan.

The idea for the page came after there was a consensus that potential contributors needed to see the plan and have a place where their questions would be answered quickly and efficiently.

The group also decided there would be an open house tentatively scheduled for early March.

“We have a group of people who are successful at what they do because of their attention to detail in the things they do,” VanOverschelde said. “We are trying to pull the experience and expertise of the other committee members to complete this project to the best of our capabilities.”

Originally, the committee looked at painting the ceilings of the weight room, but is now considering painting the entire weight room, as well as putting in mirrors so the athletes can self-observe themselves. In addition to the cosmetic changes, the committee is looking to enhance the weight room by upgrading all new equipment.

“One of the objectives of this project is to maximize the space of this room,” VanOverschelde said. “This is becoming a very comprehensive project that we hope will have a lasting effect in our community for a long time.”

The group will meet again Monday at Mitchell High School.

VanOverschelde said the group has not attracted any new members yet, but he is hopeful that as the project gains interest people will come forth with new ideas.
