Things to remember

PLANKINTON TO HOST CRACKER BARREL: A cracker barrel session will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Plank Inn Café, Plankinton.

NO NARFE MEETINGS HELD: The National Association of Retired Federal Employees will not meet in February or March. The next regular meeting will be on April 11.

Fast facts

Today in local history

On this date in 1964, the Mitchell Jaycees announced that an official franchise for the Soap Box Derby had been issued to Mitchell by the All-American Soap Box Derby headquarters in Detroit.

The second running of the race in Mitchell was on July 4. The winner received a $500 U.S. savings bond, a trophy and a free trip to Akron, Ohio, for the national event.
