AVON — Ariana Oorlog had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Avon girls’ basketball team to its 14th win of the season Monday.

The Pirates led by two points at halftime and went on to defeat Gayville-Volin 55-40.
Chesney Nagel had a game-high 24 points for Avon and Heidi Cap had 10 points and 11 rebounds, also recording a double-double. Nagel added seven rebounds and three assists.
Avon was 19-of-47 from the field, 13-of-20 from the free-throw line and had 11 turnovers.
Gayville-Volin’s Kalia Barta had 15 points to lead the team.
Avon (14-5) plays Irene-Wakonda Tuesday in Irene next.

Marion 37, Freeman Academy 27
FREEMAN — Katherine Luke scored a game-high 14 points to help lift Marion over Freeman Academy 37-27 Monday in Freeman.
Devin Nelson scored 12 points and Kylie Hughes had nine points for the Bears, who were 17-of-44 for 39 percent from the field and 2-of-5 for 40 percent from the free-throw line. Luke grabbed nine of the team’s 28 rebounds and Marion committed 23 turnovers.
Freeman Academy was led by Clara Koerner with 10 points. Chelsea Wentz brought down a team-high eight rebounds. The Bobcats were 11-of-43 for 26 percent from the field and 2-of-6 for 33 percent from the foul line. Freeman Academy totaled 28 rebounds and 22 turnovers.
Marion (7-10) plays Viborg-Hurley in its final game of the regular season Thursday in Viborg, while Freeman Academy (2-15) hosts Canistota today.

Boys’ basketball
Avon 58, Gayville-Volin 39
AVON — Brandon Kocmich had 20 points and eight rebounds, Logan Mudder had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Logan Powers had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead Avon past Gayville-Volin 58-39 Monday night.
Avon was 21-of-50 from the field, had 15 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 39-17.
Gayville-Volin’s Brandon Vanosdel had 12 points and six rebounds.
Avon (6-11) plays Wolsey-Wessington Thursday at Mitchell’s Corn Palace in its next game.

Marion 55, Freeman Academy 48
FREEMAN — The game was tied after the first quarter but Marion pulled away for a 55-48 win over Freeman Academy Monday in boys’ high school basketball action.
Joey Tessia had seven rebounds for Marion. No other individual stats for Marion were reported.
Marion was 19-of-51 from field, 11-of-19 from the free-throw line and had 16 turnovers.
Freeman Academy’s Teagan Schroeder had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Freeman Academy — which won the JV game 38-27 — was 19-of-45 from the field, 7-of-12 from the foul line and had 18 turnovers. Marion won the rebounding battle 27-25.
Freeman Academy (1-17) plays Gayville-Volin Feb. 21 in Gayville, while Marion (3-15) plays Thursday at Viborg-Hurley.
