PIERRE, S.D. – Officials have closed Interstate 29 between Exit 177 at Watertown, S.D., and the North Dakota border effective immediately on Sunday morning, Feb. 10.

Snow and strong winds are combining to create snow-packed and slippery roads, with sometimes heavy drifting and near-zero visibility. The winds are forecast to continue throughout Sunday and into Monday morning, and conditions are unlikely to improve soon.

Interstate 90 between Wall and Chamberlain remains closed. Because the weather forecasts anticipate continued snow and increasing winds across a broad area of South Dakota, other interstate closures are likely through the day, and travel will be difficult to impossible at times on other highways in many areas of South Dakota.
