Nicholas Patrick Van Wassenhove, 42, Chicago, Ill., formerly of Mitchell, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at North Western Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Ill.
Nicholas Patrick Van Wassenhove, 42, Chicago, Ill., formerly of Mitchell, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at North Western Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Ill.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1970. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Mitchell. Burial was in Chicago. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
Nick Van Wassenhove, son of Bernard and Mary Ann (Draminski) Van Wassenhove, was born in Peoria, Ill.
He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1989 and then later was a graduate of the Chicago Hospitality Institute of Chicago.
Nick worked as a chef for various Chicago restaurants and spent time as a personal chef on tour with the group Rascal Flatts.
On Nov. 6, 1999, he was united in marriage with Chelle Rohm and to this union a son, Carson, was born. The couple later divorced.
Survivors include his son Carson, Chicago; his parents, Bernard and Mary Ann Van Wassenhove, Mitchell; a brother, Christopher (Bobbi Jo) Van Wassenhove, Sioux Falls; a sister, Elizabeth Van Wassenhove and her fiancé, Kevin Kent, Sioux Falls; four nephews: Ian, Gabe, Tristin and Trey, all of Sioux Falls; a niece, Ava, Sioux Falls; and Chelle Van Wassenhove.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter and Anna Van Wassenhove; and Frank and Marie Draminski.
An educational trust has been established for Carson to which memorials will be directed.
