A Mitchell man was arrested in the early morning hours Saturday for third-offense drunken driving. John Tassler, 32, was pulled over by police after he stopped in the westbound lane of First Avenue after running through the southbound stop sign on North Kimball Street, court documents say.
The officer noticed Tassler’s breath smelled of alcohol and he was having trouble keeping his balance, court documents say. Tassler’s blood alcohol content was allegedly found to be 0.236 around the time of his arrest. The legal limit for driving in South Dakota is 0.08.
Tassler is charged with third-offense drunken driving, driving with a revoked license and a stop-sign violation. He faces a maximum of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine if convicted of third-offense drunken driving, a felony.
Tassler is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
