LOWER BRULE — A Lower Brule man pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault for punching another man in the face and knocking him unconscious.
Leonard Edwards, 22, faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release for one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
The charge stems from an incident Aug. 25 in which Edwards, the victim and others were at a house party in Lower Brule.
Edwards followed the victim outside and struck him in the face with a closed fist, knocking the victim unconscious.
As a result of the assault, the victim suffered multiple fractures to the jaw that required surgery to repair.
Edwards was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing. A sentencing date has been set for April.
