HANSON AREA LIBRARY GRAND OPENING SET: The grand opening for the Hanson Area Community Library will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, in the new building, Alexandria.

LUNCHEON FOR RETIRED GUARDS PLANNED: Mitchell Retired Army National Guard men and wives will meet for lunch at noon today at The Depot, Mitchell.

Today in local history

On this date in 2008, the Davison County Commission got its first glimpse of a plan which would create the new Ethan Rural Fire Protection District.

The area would cover portions of southwestern Hanson County and southeastern Davison County, including Ethan, portions of Baker, Lisbon, Prosper and Rome townships in Davison County and parts of Worthen, Rosedale and Beulah townships in Hanson County.
