ETHAN —Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan standout Anthony Huber will sign a letter of intent today to play football for Augustana College, he confirmed to The Daily Republic Tuesday evening.

Huber, a senior fullback/linebacker, was an all-state player for the Seahawks. He believes he will redshirt his first season with the Vikings. He was also getting recruited by Southwest Minnesota State University, South Dakota State University, Morningside College, Dakota State and the University of South Dakota.

Huber’s older brother, Jeremy Huber, also played football for Augustana as a fullback and graduated in 2009.

Krista Winckler commits to DWU

The Dakota Wesleyan women’s golf team got its first commitment of the year earlier this week from Krista Winckler.

The Andes Central senior is the sister of current Tiger golfer Jenna Winckler. The younger Winckler joins the DWU program after a three-year varsity career in which she qualified for the Class B state tournament twice.

Winckler also lettered six times in basketball and five in volleyball.

MAC swimmers qualify for state

SIOUX FALLS — Four swimmers qualified for the state meet during the Mitchell Aquatic Club Winter Invite last weekend in Sioux Falls.

There were a total of 192 athletes from seven teams and MAC had 38 swimmers participate. With those four swimmers, MAC has qualified a total of 27 swimmers for state, which is March 1-3 in Aberdeen.

Max Alexander, 11, qualified in the 100-meter individual medley (IM) and the 200-meter freestyle. Lukas Bennett, 8, qualified in the 50-meter backstroke.

Paige Phinney, 9, qualified in the 50-meter backstroke and Lauren Anderson, 7, qualified in the 25-meter backstroke race.

Lucie Anderson, Karlie Brown, Christian Fossum, Elizabeth Fossum, Ethan Huber, Mary Krause, Gage Nelson, Brynn Palmer, Cailey Scott, Lauren Scott, Taylor Studer, Karlie Tiede and Tevyn Waddell earned first-place finishes in the meet.

Waddell claimed eight titles and Cailey Scott won seven events.

Giblin, Williams to speak at QB Club

Ethan girls’ basketball coach Scott Giblin and University of South Dakota women’s basketball coach Amy Williams are the featured guests at tonight’s Quarterback Club meeting.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at The Depot and also will have Mitchell High School and Dakota Wesleyan University coaches.
