HURON — The Mitchell Christian girls’ basketball team won its second game in two days.

HURON — The Mitchell Christian girls’ basketball team won its second game in two days.

The Eagles beat James Valley Christian 53-34 Tuesday to improve to 12-5.

“The girls came out playing hard after playing two games in a row,” Mitchell Christian coach Jackie Van Laecken said. “They shot the ball well and played great defense. We have two games left in the season, and we are still trying to continue to grow every game heading into districts.”

Becca Glanzer led Mitchell Christian in scoring with 17 points. Alexa Van Laecken chipped in with 12. Brittany Zoss led MCS in rebounds with 13.

The Eagles grabbed 29 total rebounds and forced James Valley Christian to commit 17 turnovers.

“We worked the traps, then we dropped into different defenses and we took away some of their best players,” Van Laecken said. “If you can hold a team under 40 points, you usually have a good shot at victory.”

Tara Nihart was the only James Valley Christian player to score in double figures. Nihart finished with 12 points.

Mitchell Christian plays Bridgewater-Emery Tuesday in Emery.
