Inmate absconds from minimum-security unit in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Authorities are looking for an inmate who left a minimum-security unit at the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls without authorization.

Corrections officials say 31-year-old Jarod Shoemaker was assigned to a community transition program. He absconded Monday morning.

Shoemaker had been serving 10 years on charges related to a Yankton County escape and a Davison County weapons violation.
