Marlene Larson, 69, Mitchell, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.

Marlene Larson, 69, Mitchell, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1943.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.

Marlene Joan Larson was born in Estherville, Iowa, to Halver and Adelaide (Sylvester) Aanonson.

She moved to Tintah, Minn., in 1947 and graduated from Tintah High School in 1961.

She earned a two-year nursing degree in Wahpeton, N.D., and moved to Minneapolis in 1964, where she worked in the Glenwood Hills Hospital.

On Sept. 24, 1966, she married James Larson at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa.

They moved to Mitchell in 1971, where she worked at St. Joseph Hospital until retiring in 1990.

Marlene’s family and friends meant the world to her and she loved spending time with them.

Marlene was an avid golfer, loved playing cards and board games and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jim, making Branson a favorite destination.

She was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; three sons: Jeffrey (Lisa) Larson; Scott (Karin) Larson; and Chad Larson, all of Mitchell; one daughter, Jamie (Chris) Fox, Sioux Falls; two brothers: Andrew (Marge) Aanonson, Camano Island, Wash.; and Marvin (Diedre) Aanonson, Anchorage, Alaska; and eight grandchildren: Tate, Koby and Jace Larson; Halle, Avery and Macon Larson; and Addison and Brayson Fox.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
