SDSU men top Coyotes 67-54
BROOKINGS — Despite shooting 37.7 percent from the field, the South Dakota State men’s basketball team was able to defeat in-state rival University of South Dakota 67-54 Thursday at Frost Arena in Brookings.

BROOKINGS — Despite shooting 37.7 percent from the field, the South Dakota State men’s basketball team was able to defeat in-state rival University of South Dakota 67-54 Thursday at Frost Arena in Brookings.
The Jackrabbits improved to 17-6 overall and 8-2 in the Summit League with the help of forward Jordan Dykstra, who scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Dykstra, who was 6-of-16 from the field, also became the school’s 43rd member of the 1,000-point club. The junior is averaging 13 points per game this season.
Three other SDSU players scored in double figures. Senior guard Nate Wolters led the way with 19 points, while junior guard Chad White and senior forward Tony Fiegen added 11 apiece.
USD shot 48.9 percent from the field but only had one player score in double figures in Casey Kasperbauer, who finished with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Kasperbauer also accounted for three of the Coyotes’ five made 3-pointers.
South Dakota’s Juevol Myles, who is the team’s leading scorer averaging 15.5 points per game, was 2-of-10 from the field and scored seven points.
The Jackrabbits won the turnover battle, forcing the Coyotes to commit 17 turnovers, while only having eight of their own.
USD (8-14, 4-6 Summit) is back in action at against North Dakota State at 7 p.m. Saturday in Fargo.
South Dakota State is on a six-game winning streak and takes on University of Missouri Kansas City at 4:05 p.m. Saturday at Frost Arena in Brookings.
