Things to remember
FUSION SPONSORS MOVIE NIGHT: Family movie night will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Sherman Center, Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell. The event is free and open to all. Moviegoers can choose between “Brave” on the big screen or VeggieTales’ “Robin Good,” available for smaller children. There will be popcorn, snacks and games. The event is sponsored by Fusion.
BOOK SALE SET FOR LONGFELLOW ELEMENTARY: A Scholastic Book Fair will be at Longfellow Elementary Monday through Friday, Feb. 4-8, at the school, Mitchell.
The fair will be open daily from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, and the public is welcome.
The Book Fair offers specially priced books and educational products for all ages.

Today in local history
On this date in 2012, it was announced that the South Dakota Board of Education approved a new welding and manufacturing technology program for Mitchell Technical Institute. The program was created in response to a high industry demand for welders throughout the state.
