Wessington Springs native Drew Kraft set a new personal best in the 3,000-meters on Jan.26 for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at the USD Alumni Meet. The junior distance runner clocked in at 8:40.34, beating his previous career best of 8:46.42, which he set last year.
Kraft’s time ranks in the top-ten in The Summit League.
The Jacks travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the Husker Invite on Feb.1.
- The Dakota State women’s 3,200-meter relay team consisting of Kayla Sveen, Stephanie Warnke, Brooke Fritz, and Stephanie Uher qualified for nationals with a time of nine minutes and 51.34 seconds, placing second in the event at the Buena Vista Open on Jan.26 in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Uher, a Mitchell graduate and senior for the Trojans, also finished fourth in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.22.
Warnke, a senior from Fairfax, finished second on the day in the 800-meters with a time of 2:25.90.
In the 3,000-meters, Amber Wiebenga, a sophomore from Avon, placed 12th with a time of 13:43.53.
Warnke and Uher were also part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team that finished fourth with a time of 4:14.24.
Dakota State returns to action on Friday and Saturday as the team travels to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska, and Storm Lake, Iowa, for the Dennis Young Classic at the Lamberti Recreation Center.
- Former Stickney standout Shelby Assmus placed second in the shot put at the USD Alumni Meet and Bill Bergan Invite Saturday for the South Dakota State women’s track and field team. Assmus, a junior for the Jacks, recorded a throw of 46-feet-06.75.
Rochelle Wynia, a freshman for the Jacks from Platte, finished the 3000-meters in 11:30.94.
The Jackrabbits will be back on the road again next weekend as they travel to Lincoln, Neb. Nebraska will be hosting the Husker Invite over Friday and Saturday.
- Former Bon Homme standout Raquel Sutera had a career week for the Mount Marty women’s basketball team in two games against Dakota Wesleyan Unviersity and Nebraska Wesleyan Jan. 23 and Saturday.
Sutera, a true freshman for the Lancers, averaged 10.5 points and seven rebounds on the week in two Great Plains Athletic Conference wins for Mount Marty.
The Lancers tip off again on Saturday, when they host Briar Cliff in GPAC action in Yankton.
