Lawmakers to set exact definition of truancy in SD

Truancy’s definition may be changing. Rep. Elizabeth May, R-Kyle, would set a hard number with HB 1176: More than three days in any school year without a valid excuse. It would replace the current definition “not attending school or whose attendance is irregular.”
