Search of Mitchell home results in two drug arrests

Two Mitchell residents were arrested Wednesday after law enforcement executed a search of their residence and allegedly found more than 5 pounds of marijuana.

Jared Nespor, 23, and Melissa Schuppan, 24, are charged with four felonies as a result of the search, which took place at their residence at 1109 S. Rowley St. Authorities allegedly found 5.5 pounds of marijuana, which has an approximate value of $24,000, according to a Mitchell Police Division news release.

Hashish, a resin that can be extracted from the cannabis plant, commonly known as the marijuana plant, and several items of drug paraphernalia were also found in the search, the release says.

The two are charged with possession of more than 1 pound of marijuana, possession of more than 1 pound of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance and violating a drug-free zone.

The distribution charge is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. The three remaining charges are each felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

The search was conducted by the James Valley Drug Task Force, Mitchell Police Division, Division of Criminal Investigation, Highway Patrol and sheriff’s offices from Davison, Sanborn, Aurora and Hanson counties.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible, the release says.
