Today in local history

On this date in 2010, South Dakota was recovering from a winter storm which left as many as 7,600 people without electricity.

More than 1,800 customers of Central Electric, which services the immediate Mitchell area, were without power and there were an estimated 400 snapped power poles in the area. Brule County residents were the most heavily affected.
