Sometimes, reruns just aren’t enough.
For fans of the long-running “Carol Burnett Show,” the Mitchell Area Community Theatre is bringing back some of the classic TV show’s best-loved sketches for two nights of community comedy, Friday and Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre in Mitchell.
Ladies and Gentlemen’s Night Out, A Final Helping of “The Carol Burnett Show” will start at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday night.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door, and available at www.mitchellact.org or by calling (605) 996-9137.
ACT Manager Carm Roster said this is the third year the ACT has put together the show, which also features door prizes, beer and wine coolers as refreshments and Perkins pie during intermission. She said about 200 people attend the show each night.
“The atmosphere is different,” she said. “It’s kind of a fun, laid back kind of night.” It also allows a few fresh faces to grace the stage, apart from the ACT’s crew of regular season performers. “It’s not as big of a time commitment as a regular season show would be,” Roster said. She said door prizes, which will be drawn in between skits, include gift cards from local stores, bottles of wine, jewelry and gift baskets.
“Just a little bit of everything,” Roster said.
“The Carol Burnett Show” was a variety/sketch comedy television show starring noted comedienne Carol Burnett along with Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner and Tim Conway. During 11 seasons on CBS from 1967 to 1978, it won 25 prime time Emmy Awards. It continues to garner praise; in 2002 it was ranked No. 16 on TV Guide’s 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time, and in 2007 it was listed as one of Time magazine’s “100 Best TV Shows of All Time.”
Directed by Cat Erickson, the ACT’s re-enacted comedy sketches will include several renowned “Carol Burnett Show” mainstays, including The Old Folks, Alice Portnoy and “As The Stomach Turns.”
