Eight local youth basketball players won at the Knights of Columbus Hoopshoot Sunday in Mitchell.

Kade Clark made 15 of 15 baskets in the competition. Connor Liddeke, Dillion Robinson, Alec Nelson, Kyle Menning, Mike Loudner, Mollie Miller and Kacey Bartscher also won, earning an opportunity to compete at district and state competitions.

USD men rally for 97-78 victory

ROCHESTER, Mich. — South Dakota overcame a 14-point first-half deficit and had six men score in double figures to earn a 97-78 victory over Oakland on Saturday.

Casey Kasperbauer led the way with 23 points for South Dakota (8-12, 4-4 Summit), including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. South Dakota made 10 of 19 shots from beyond the arc as a team. South Dakota also was 19 of 20 from the free-throw line.

Juevol Myles added 17 points, Brandon Bos had 13, Trevor Gruis and Jordan Boots had 11 and Karim Rowson had 10.

S. Dakota State tops IUPUI 80-68

INDIANAPOLIS — Brayden Carlson scored 18 points and the other four starters scored in double figures for South Dakota State in an 80-68 victory over IUPUI on Saturday.

South Dakota State (15-6, 6-2 Summit) also got 12 points from Nate Wolters, 11 from Jordan Dykstra and 10 each from Tony Fiegen and Chad White.

Carlson connected on three 3-point shots and grabbed seven rebounds. Wolters had seven assists.

The South Dakota State bench also was productive, outscoring the IUPUI reserves 19-3.

USD women defeat Oakland 64-29

Three University of South Dakota women’s basketball players scored in double figures to help lift the Coyotes to a 64-29 victory over Oakland University Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.

Tempestt Wilson scored a game-high 17 points, Nicole Seekamp added 15 and Polly Harrington chipped in with 10 for the Coyotes (9-10, 4-2 Summit), who shot 40 percent from the field.

SDSU women lose to IUPUI 57-56

The South Dakota State women’s basketball team lost its first summit league game of the season Saturday.

The Jackrabbits fell to IUPUI 57-56 at Frost Arena in Brookings. The loss ended SDSU’s win streak of eight games.

South Dakota State shot 35 percent from the field and 13 percent from behind the three point line.

Gabrielle Boevere led the Jackrabbits in scoring with 15 points.
