Pierre home for substance abusers closing

The Sober Living Home operated by Capital Area Counseling Service Inc. was designed as a place for people with addictions to live together in a safe environment and deal with their problems together.

PIERRE (AP) — A home in Pierre for substance abusers is closing after operating only about a year.

The Sober Living Home operated by Capital Area Counseling Service Inc. was designed as a place for people with addictions to live together in a safe environment and deal with their problems together while also being employed in the community. It was based on similar operations in Sioux Falls.

Capital Area Counseling Service CEO Dennis Pfimmer tells the media that officials couldn't find enough residents who met the admission criteria. He says the closure has nothing to do with neighborhood opposition.

Pfimmer says the home and property eventually will be sold.
