Legislature selling piece of history in Yankton
The Mead Building at the state Human Services Center is to be sold to the Yankton County Historical Society. Part of the deal is 1.24 acres of land.
PIERRE — The Senate voted 34-0 Tuesday afternoon to approve SB 34. The bill, as explained by Sen. Jean Hunhoff, R-Yankton, allows the Mead Building at the state Human Services Center to be sold to the Yankton County Historical Society. Part of the deal is 1.24 acres of land.
The society currently is in the Dakota Territorial Museum on Summit Street in Yankton and wants to relocate to the beautiful 1909 structure. The sale would be the next step after a 20-year lease was signed between the society and state government last summer. The legislation now goes to the House for consideration. The sale has the governor’s support.
