HASTINGS, Neb. — The No. 24 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team was unable to overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and lost to Hastings College 63-60 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup Sunday in Hastings, Neb.

“It was a tale of two halves,” DWU coach Jason Christensen said. “We didn’t come ready to play, and you can’t play like that in the GPAC and think you’re going to win on the road.”

The Tigers (14-6, 6-5 GPAC) had a chance to tie the game within the final 18 seconds of the game but weren’t able to do so.

DWU shot 51 percent in the second half but only 33 percent in the opening frame.

Hastings, which shot 44 percent from the field, went on an 8-0 run to open the game and never gave up the lead. Hastings outrebounded the Tigers 41-21.

“We were giving them second and third shots, and you can’t afford to do that,” Christensen said.

The Tigers return home for three games, opening with Dakota State at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
